Qualifications & Requirements for an ASDCA Mentor

The member must be a full member in good standing with at least 12 years of experience with the ASDCA. They must have extensive knowledge of AKC dog showing and a firm knowledge and application of the ASD form and function contained within the breed standard. The mentor must demonstrate the desire for knowledge, lifelong learning, and possess the heart of a teacher.

When mentoring at an AKC event or participating at a Judges Education presentation, the mentor will:

  • Always act in the best interest of the ASD/ASDCA
  • Show enthusiasm and a positive attitude
  • Provide an unbiased view of the ASD standard and its application to the breed

A mentor must stay current in the breed standard by:

  • Continuing attendance or be a presenter at an ASDCA sanctioned Breed Standard of Excellence presentation and/or view the AKC Breed video of the Anatolian Shepherd Dog
  • Reading, understanding, and following the ASDCA’s Judges Mentor/Seminar Presenter Criteria
  • Attending an ASDCA National or Regional Specialty or Supported Entry or Meet the Breeds every two years

The mentor understands that it is a privilege to become an ASDCA Mentor/Presenter and is willing to mentor AKC judging applicants as well as participate in educational seminars as called upon. At such times the mentor will deliver the presentation as set forth in the Judges/Mentor/Presenter Program and the Criteria for the Breed Standard of Excellence established by the ASDCA.

An application with the ASDCA does not constitute a granting of the right to mentor or present for the ASDCA. A mentor application with the ASDCA must be approved from the Judges Education Committee.

All mentor applications will be approved by the Judges Education Committee biannually. Any ring side mentorships or seminars can be requested any time during the year. Any failure to comply with the above requirements will be an act of resignation and the mentor will be removed from the approved list.

Fill out the application in the link below and submit to the Board of Directors via email asdcabod@gmail.com.
