HISAR SHIELD AWARD

Established in 1998

The Hisar Shield Award is considered a “Life Time Achievement Award” by the Anatolian Shepherd Dog Club of America (ASDCA). In 1998, the Anatolian Shepherd Dog Club of Great Britain voted to send the ASDCA a new perpetual trophy to be given in memory of Natalka Czartoryska. Since the 1970’s, the one name that has come to be synonymous with Anatolian Shepherd Dogs world-wide is Natalka Czartoryska. From her home in Surrey, England, Natalka fought valiantly for recognition of the breed both in England and internationally by FCI. The Hisar Shield Award honors Natalka and her dedication to preserving the Anatolian Shepherd Dog (also known as “Coban Kopegi”). The ASDCA designated the Hisar Shield Award for recognition to an individual (or individuals) who have given extraordinary service to the ASDCA and breed by his/her long-time record of service and leadership involving activities performed on behalf of the ASDCA. The Hisar Shield award is not awarded annually, although it can be if a worthy recipient exists. It is only bestowed upon an individual(s) when he/she is deemed worthy of that unique honor.

Distinguished Service Awards

The ASDCA Distinguished Service Awards were started in 1990 to honor those dogs that went over and above the everyday life of an Anatolian. Originally, there were six categories, but have since been condensed to what we have today. These awards are one of the oldest awards in the ASDCA and are intended to recognize the actions of the Anatolian Shepherd Dog for various levels of guardian and/or service behavior. These awards are presented at the Annual Banquet held in conjunction with the ASDCA National Specialty..

Letters of nomination should be mailed by September 15, 2021 to:
Ron Arden
357 Ridge Rd
Westminster VT
914-714-8031
rjarden53@gmail.com

The original awards designed in 1990 were:

Outstanding Service Dog Awards

Category #1: For an ASD whose actions, without human input and acting independent of owner’s direction, saved a person’s life (this is our “Hero” top award).

Category #2: For an ASD who, without human input and acting independent of owner’s direction, saved a person from a harmful event.

Category #3: For an ASD who, without human input and acting independent of owner’s direction, saved an animal from a life threatening event or prevented property from being damaged (this category is for pets rather than livestock).

Distinguished Livestock Guardian Award

Category #5: For an ASD who has prevented loss of livestock as a single action or over a period of time. We need to have information on stock Losses

Distinguished Service Award

Category #4: For an ASD who sought out and became a “special friend” to someone with a handicap or disability. This action should be similar to a trained seeing-eye dog or other trained dog. however, the dog is performing the action without human input (for trained dogs – see Service Award).

Service Award

Category #6: For an ASD trained to serve as a seeing eye dog, hearing dog, therapy dog, or other trained working dog.

In an effort to streamline the awards, the six service dog award categories were combined into four divisions/categories in 2012 and a two year time limit was established. As in the past, these awards are not necessarily given each year. Each ASD nominated for an award must be truly deserving by going OVER AND ABOVE WHAT THESE DOGS DO ON A DAILY BASIS to win an award. The ASDCA now recognizes the following Service Dog Award divisions and categories:

Outstanding Service Dog Award

Category #1: For an ASD whose actions, WITHOUT INPUT & ACTING INDEPENDENT OF OWNER’S DIRECTION, saved a person’s life or saved a person from harm (OUR TOP HERO AWARD).

Category #2: For an ASD who, WITHOUT HUMAN INPUT & ACTING INDEPENDENT OF OWNER’S DIRECTION, prevented property from being damaged or a crime from being committed.

Distinguished Service Award

For an ASD that serves as a Physical Therapy Dog, Service Dog, Seeing Eye Dog, Hearing dog, or any other human assistance dog. In this capacity, the ASD distinguished itself.

Distinguished Livestock Guardian Award

For an ASD whose specific action, TAKEN WITHOUT HUMAN INPUT OF ANY KIND AND DEMONSTRATIVE OF THE BEST IN WORKING GUARDIAN ABILITY, saved an animal’s life, or saved an animal from harm (OUR TOP ASDCA LIVESTOCK GUARDIAN AWARD).
